Welcome to the UVM CORA Co-occuring PTSD and OUD Toolkit

Introduction

The prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is substantially higher in individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) than in the general population. Although medications for OUD (MOUD; e.g., methadone, buprenorphine) are the most efficacious treatments for OUD, patients with co-occurring PTSD may be more likely to discontinue MOUD treatment and resume opioid use. Unfortunately, most patients with PTSD are not evaluated and are not offered education, counseling or referrals for PTSD assessment or treatment.

The goal of this University of Vermont Center on Rural Addiction toolkit is to provide evidence-based PTSD assessment instruments, treatment manuals, training opportunities, and educational resources to treatment providers and staff who are providing care to people with PTSD and OUD in rural communities.
